A vital part of Indian infotech history

Brief Book Review: The Maverick Effect: The Inside Story of India's IT Revolution Kindle Edition by Harish Mehta  ; Harper Collins 2022 Rs 699 ( hard cover) ( Currently, Rs 559 at Amazon)
April 27 2022: Harish Mehta held a key position in NASSCOM during its formative years. So he is ideally suited to document its history. That he morphs this into his personal history is not essential-- but does not detract from the central purpose of his book.
Surprisingly, NASSCOM has not thought to publish its official history even after 30 years -- so Mehta fills a crucial gap. He does justice to the "poster boy" of NASSCOM's formative years -- Dewang Mehta-- without losing objectivity or glossing over some challenges that Dewang posed.
I must declare a very small personal interest. Harish Mehta is one of the most distinguished alumni of the College of Engineering Pune (COEP) which is also my alma mater -- and though I don't know him personally, I have listened to him speak at one of the Alumni Association events of the class of '69.
Essential reading if you want to know how NASSCOM, India's most visible  tech association grew to be what it is today.
(Harish S. Mehta is the founding member and the first Chairman of NASSCOM and brought the TiE network to India in the late-90s. He is also the Founder and Executive Chairman of Onward Technologies Ltd. and the co-founder of Infinity venture fund, 2001, India's first corporatized venture fund). - Anand Parthasarathy
