March 212 2021: India is one of the top five mobile gaming markets in the world.
Over the last few years, there has been a steep rise in the number of online gamers, and the market is expected to reach US$ 2.2 billion by 2022. This rapid rise of the industry is mainly due to high smartphone and mobile payment ecosystems (mainly UPI and wallets) penetration. The landscape is now characterized by the presence of multiple global and Indian players, and Indian platforms witnessed a surge in adoption during the lockdown.
A recent edition of PraxInsights from Praxis Global Alliance surveys the Indian online gaming market landscape that is expected to show an annual growth rate of 34%.

- ‘Real money gaming’ is the biggest segment and is almost 68% of the online gaming industry today. - - The segment continues to lead the growth of digital gaming and is growing at a CAGR of ~34% today. Casual gaming which includes segments such as trivia games, board/puzzle games is a close second-runner up growing at a CAGR of 21%
- Total online gamers in India are expected to reach 582M by 2022, growing at a CAGR of 26% between 2016-22. The industry continues to attract female gamers – and focused development of social simulation games and other genres is seeing greater engagement by women 
- The relationship between fantasy gaming and real-life sports events continues to become even closer and while engagement time is growing, it continues to lag behind the US and China. Indian gamers on average spend 1.5 hours per gaming session
- The ubiquity of the smartphone among young users today has resulted in the fact that the mobile phone is the preferred gaming device for 70% + users
