The latest handset in the Infinix Hot series offers its biggest ever screen, battery and RAM

October 6 2020: It worked for Godzilla and it sure works for smartphones: size does matter, the bigger the better.
It has been just 3 months since Transsion launched the Infinix Hot 9, and here we are holding another iteration. Hot 10 goes jumbo in multiple specs; the screen size has been increased from 6.6 inches to 6.78 inches… anything larger would be phablet, not phone. This makes the Hot 10 the largest phone—screen size-wise—in this price band. The battery already large at 5000 mAh has been further enhanced to 5200 mAh. Users, like Oliver Twist, keep asking for some more, because the long Covid lockdowns have unleashed binge watching and extended gaming. And to support this increased demand on the CPU –Mediatek’s Heloo G70 octa-processor – Infinix has boosted the DDR4 RAM to 6 GB, again fairly unprecedented in handsets priced around Rs 10,000.
The DTS-HD surround sound lets you enjoy music or movies, loud and clear. The front camera combo has four lenses: a 16 MP main shooter, a 2 MP macro for closeup, another 2 MP that helps blur the background for bokeh effects and a fourth camera for AI effects. I found the night shooting capability much better than earlier models in the series. The front or selfie camera is a decent 8 MP with multiple selectable modes. The storage is 128 GB but if you do run out, you can add another 256 GB in the micro SD slot.
The dual nano SIMs can do justice to newer services like VoLTE and VoWiFi.
Infinix delivers the latest Android 10 plus its own XOS 7 and I like the fact that the makers always throw in small but compelling new tools with each new model. In this instance, they offer q document mode in the camera that lets you smooth out and crop the image before sending… very useful these days.
Another neat trick is the ability to create short videos using both front and back cameras.
All said, I would rate the Infinix Hot 10 as excellent value with thoughtful enhancements for movie watchers, video makers and gaming enthusiasts, not to forget the little productivity tools. It will be available at Flipkart from October 16 for Rs 9999. More info here
