Bharti Airtel, has announced 50 Mbps broadband in India – the fastest wireline broadband in the country in the consumer segment.

For starters, the service would be available in select locations in Delhi and Gurgaon with a phased roll-out in Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore.
But the zippy service doesn’t come cheap: Rs 8999 a month buys 50 Mbps broadband speed with free data transfer up to 200 GB and additional free value added services (VAS) like Parallel Ringing, Website Builder (Basic), PC Secure (Anti-Virus software), Online Storage, Unlimited Gaming on Games on Demand. The 30 MBPS service is Rs 7999 a month. The provider has not said how much additional data transfer over the free quota will cost.
Airtel’s new high speed services deploys VDSL2 (Very High Speed Digital Subscriber Line), the newest standard of DSL broadband wire line communications. It is designed to support the wide deployment of Triple Play services such as voice, video, data, IPTV, high definition television (HDTV) and interactive gaming. VDSL2 also enables customers to stream HD Content.  March 29 2010
