After almost three decade of service with the Kerala state government, during which he steered the industrial and technological initiatives of the state for three different departments, with great success, Indian Administrative Services officer Ajay Kumar has moved to Delhi, where he will be Joint Secretary in the Department of Information Technology of the central Ministry of Telecom and IT.
An IIT Kanpur alumni, Dr Ajay Kumar did his MS in Applied Economics and his PhD in Business Administration at the University of Minnesota in the US.
In Kerala, he has been the sub divisional magistrate and later district magistrate in Tellicherry ( 1985-89) and Palakkad districts ( 1992-94); the Managing Director of the Kerala State Agricultural and Rural Development Bank ( 1991-92); Secretary in the Industries Ministry from 1999 to 2003; the managing director of the state undertaking KELTRON for 2 ½ years from July 2000 and most recently Secretary, Information Technology from October 2007 to Dec 2010.
He is credited with guiding the restructuring of several state public undertakings under Asian Development Bank programmes; providing leadership to KELTRON during a critical period in the undertaking’s history and putting the state firmly on the path to e-governance, citizen e-mpowerment and full Net connectivity.
As a member of joint expert groups with China, Myanmar, Nepal and Bangla Desh, Dr Ajay Kumar has also addressed sensitive trade and border issues in regional and international arenas. Dec 26 2010
